SMSC ACCOUNTS RECEIVABLE OR AD SCHEDULING HANG-UPS...

Clients that are using the old SMSC Accounts Receivable or Ad Scheduling might notice that there are hanging-ups in some systems. Legacy programs can take over the CPU. This can be devastating in a multi-user environment such as Microsoft Terminal Server or Citrix Metaframe. A dual processor machine can slow to a crawl with just a few users.

Once an additional software package TAME is installed, it acts as a mediator between the DOS applications and Windows. Tame allows you to efficiently run DOS programs. This keeps the CPU utilization down by not letting the application constantly check for input. When you input data, TAME gets out of the way and let the application process. Just load the Tame program in the DOS session, and Tame takes care of the rest.

The results are amazing! SMSC drops back down to 2% utilization after every input or process as opposed to staying at 100%. Most importantly all other applications run like lightning when SMSC is open.

Another interesting point, SunType's Classified Advertising System does not suffer from the CPU utilization problem.

The Classified Group is now recommending TAME to other users. Tame is only $20 per license. Additional information can be found at  http://www.tamedos.com

Here is a partial list of problems that DOS programs run into. Tame solves these problems and many others:

  • Application changes the system date

  • Application forces the console to full screen mode

  • Application uses file locks excessively

  • Only one user at a time can start the application

  • Printing is delayed, or does not start until you exit the application

  • Application depends on BIOS services that are not implemented
