Classified display ad tracking features make it possible to place and track orders for classified display ads. Display ads may be ordered by column width and depth and may be marked for in-column or out of column placement. Display ads may be composed in nearly any Window graphic application and classified will track the files necessary for pagination.
Direct support for HTML-formatted files, so classified ads can be quickly and easily posted to a papers Web site on the Internet. To the classified system, the Internet is just another printer. HTML Support Package is now included FREE with the upgrade. New additional HTML characters. It includes support for PostScript, Quark Xpress and HTML output of ads, along with built-in capability for importing ads taken on a web site into the publication database without re-typing.
Ad and account browse: from the account search screen, you may browse lists of accounts or ads. Locating an ad without name or telephone number is a simple as typing the category and first word.
Items can be placed in queues by rate tables or the report generator modules. This means you can build resolicitation or questionable account status queues and work through them without printing a list and repeatedly searching.
Selective account detail views. When account detail lists are displayed, you may choose to view: all items, ads only, invoices only (open-item accounts only). In the invoice view, when you select an invoice and press enter, the invoice's detail list is displayed.
Rate-sensitive messages, queuing. The rate table programming language can do a lot more than compute charges. It can be used to pop up messages to the operator, sound beeps and place ads in queues. The language also supports long variable names and many other useful features.
Override flags. The ad-entry module flags ads that have had their automatically computed charge, text count or inserts-to-date count overridden by an operator. It is easy to print reports on these ads.
Enhanced report generator facilities include: new variables, queue building, the ability to access ad text information from ad-based reports and the ability to access ad information from detail-based reports. These capabilities make it possible to do more complex invoices, among other reports. Several report generator modules may be run from batch files with report definition files and output specified as command line arguments.
Deadline verification on new ad scheduling. The classified system can lock out ad scheduling for editions that have already been typeset.
Advance typesetting format setup. The typesetting format maintenance module offers run-time selection of typesetting drivers. Proofing and typesetting modules allow choices of PostScript, ClassLink for Quark, InDesign, Rich Text Format, HTML or Generic typesetter output drivers at typesetting or proofing time. You can also specify default output drivers for each format table using the typesetting format setup program.
Improved spell checking. A built-in spelling checker eliminates the need for the memory-resident spell checkers employed by previous versions. The new dictionaries include nearly 50% more words than version 4.0s dictionary.
Dual-Language hyphenation incorporates excellent Spanish-language hyphenation. Language may be chosen by typesetting code or macro, so that English and Spanish ads may share the same database. Spanish spellchecking is also available.
Typographic Flexibility: Version 4.2 will scale typefaces automatic leading and negative letter spacing. A typesetting command menu is available within the ad-text editor that makes it easier for operators to change type sizes, faces and alignment.
Built-in publication calendar makes complex skip scheduling possible.
Inserts per edition (by edition) are tracked and the information is available in the rate language.
A table of fields and functions for each user allows supervisors control over fine details of what each user can do.
Dramatically expanded rate tables (99), editions (26), specials (18 per rate table), classifications (9999). Super and sub classes.
Built-in report/form design system that makes it possible to implement new reports without programming. New reports include revenue per edition.
Indexing of unposted items to dramatically speed journals and posting.
Concurrent access enabled during typesetting selection, posting. Only aging and repair operations still require lockout of ad takers.
Open item bookkeeping. Optional globally or by account.
Incremental billing globally, by account or by rate table (rather than just globally).
Proofing reports run length, broken down by classes. Optional proof without print makes it possible to get a precise run length report.
Option to suppress old detail (before a set period) on statements, so that more detail may be kept on file than is printed.
Tracking of last date billed, last payment date and last payment amount in account information to make reports on these easier.
Posted credits and debits may be viewed though not changedby ad takers. (Before, only the detail line on the account summary was visible.)
Killing ads is much easier.
Allows capture of new ad taker information on ads being renewed. Multiple ad "counters" allow sophisticated pricing strategies. Older versions used a single counter to establish ad pricing. New version allows different parts of an ad to be counted and priced separately.
