4.2V 5.21.2005 Program Set (No longer updated)
A number of changes have been made to version 4.2 since its first post-beta release in 1998. These changes include both bug fixes and additional program capabilities
and extended report module. In late 1999, the architecture of the MS-DOS version 4.2 was significantly altered as well.
Older versions of the program relied on "Dynalink Libraries", aka "DLL's" for many of the programs' functions. In late 1999 the DLL version of the program was replaced with one that uses no DLL's. This was done to enhance compatibility with Microsoft Windows NT Workstation, as well as to simplify the maintenance and update processes for the program.
The easiest way to determine what "sub-version" of 4.2 you are running is to check the date on the file "Xclass.exe", which should be located in the SunType program directory. Those who have installed a Classified Advertising System© upgrade since November, 1999 should have the program files installed in a folder \SunType\Clprogs if you followed the recommendations in the installation instructions.
Earlier systems may use a directory \SMSC\Class for their program directory. Please note that systems upgraded from version 4.1 may have an obsolete SMSC directory still on the hard disk. Before looking for, or at, this folder, check for the \SunType folder first.
At a minimum, your Xclass.exe file should be dated in late 1999. Even better is a date sometime in
2004. The latest date on this file is
02.21.2005./
If your software is older than this, or if your directory contains file like "St_type.dll", or "St_reps.dll", you should consider obtaining an update from us.
In most cases, if you're running any version of 4.2, you can obtain the latest CD including the entire program and documentation in PDF format and the HTML Support Package for $100 plus shipping.
